2016 ODONATOLOGICAL PHOTO CONTEST
The Dragonfly Corner, has the pleasure in announcing for 2016 an Odonatological Photographic contests under the sponsorship of:
AYUNTAMIENTO DE VIELHA E MIJARAN, CONSELH GENERAU D´ARAN, CAIXABANK, HOTEL ETH POMER, CAFETERÍA ETH CARIS, PUB SAXO, CAVA BESO, CARNICERÍA ES D`ORDOÑEZ, ÓPTICA ARAN, TOCINERÍA CASASNOVAS, BIODIVERSIDAD VIRTUAL, MIRADA NATURAL, ICHN, OXYGASTRA, VERD E BLU, EL RINCÓN DE LAS LIBÉLULAS.
Dragonfly & Macro enthusiasts as well as nature photographers in general…!!Smart up and charge your batteries!!
Participation is open to all photographers, both amateurs or professionals may take part. By entering the Contest, the Photographer represents, acknowledges, and warrants that the submitted photographs are an original work created solely by the Photographer, and that he holds all the rights over the images presented.
THEMES & CATEGORIES.
The contest will deal solely with the world of dragonflies and for which the following categories have been established:
Category 1: Best dragonfly picture.
Category 2: Best dragonfly picture taken within the territory of the Valle de Arán.
The photographs will be evaluated not only for their quality but also in other aspects like: originallity, level of difficulty in its execution and the affinity to each of the categories.
NUMBER OF PHOTOGRAPHS.
A maximum of one photograph per entrant in each category entered is accepted. This is to say one picture in category C1 and one in C2.
The works will be presented as digital archives in JPEG format, and must be 1200 pixels wide in its largest side.
All photos must accurately reflect the subject matter as it appeared in the viewfinder, therefore no digital manipulation/alteration will be accepted, ie: color virajes, cloning or photomontage. Minor adjustments like: sharpening mask, color, contrast and other settings are aceptable. A máximum of 20% cropping is permitted.
The Organization will request the RAW files of the selected pictures. The non- submission within the requested period will cause disqualification.
PRESENTATION OF THE WORKS.
The Photographer shall complete the Entry Form with the required information found at the bottom of this page, and submit it along with the photograph/s. An automatic reply will be sent to each participant confirming safe receipt.
The name of the file will be the title of the photo and the category is to be placed first, C1 for the dragonfly pictures and/or C2 for the dragonfly pictures of the Valle de Aran.

Brief information to where the photo was taken is required (place, country, hábitat, behavoiour etc.) a short description of the camera settings and any other data the autor may consider of interest should be included.
No reference as to the name of the autor should be included in the title of the photos (pseudonyms, initials, nicknames, etc.).
Each participant will receive an e-mail confirming the reception of the files and the acceptance of the images (beside the automatic response).
The images will be handed over to the jury upon receipt, preserving the anonymity of the authors
All entries should be sent as from 00:00h of april 14th 2016. Deadline finalizes at 00:00h of july 1st 2016.
CODE OF ETHICS
Keep in mind that only images of animals in liberty will be accepted. Photos suspected by the jury to have placed in danger the safety of the animal photographed or its environment, will be rejected. In order to guarantee a respectful relationship with the environment we encourage the authors to follow up the “Code of conduct” drawn up for such purpose by the Asociacion Española de Fotografos de la Naturaleza (AEFONA).

The images presented must not have been awarded in other contests previously.
Copyright will remain with the photographer, however the Organisation will preserve in its photographic fund, the 20 images selected and may use them for non-profit activities, triptych editions, posters, catalogues, dissemination of the contest as well as for any other similar works and will not hand them over to third parties. The Organisation will not be entitled to fulfill any payment to the competitors, although the name of the authors will be clearly stated in an annex or in the photograph itself.
The panel of judges will be composed by at least, the following members: three association representatives, collective or profesional photographers.
For any unexpected issues unforeseen in the present rules, the jury is fully authorised to clarify them if they should arise.
A prize for the winner and the runner up of each category has been established:
An award of 600€ for Category 1 and 200€ for the runner up.
An award of 300€ for Category 2 and 100€ for the runner up.
Surprise gifts will be amongst the 20 finalists!!!
Payment to winners are subject to the withholding taxes applicable in force.
Only one prize will be granted per participant.
The winners will be notified both by e-mail and by telephone with suffient time, thus giving them the option to assist to the prize awarding ceremony if they wish.
The prize-giving ceremony will take place on july 17th 2016 in the Vielha Convention Hall.
In case that winners are able to attend the ceremony, they are requested to introduce a brief explanation of the picture during the act, otherwise they may assign another person to receive the prize on his behalf.
ACCEPTANCE OF THE RULES/BASIS
The act of participation in the competition implies the entire acceptance of the present rules. The Organization reserves the right to decide on any case not contemplated in these rules.
